  • Archeologist date Indian ancestry back more than 2o,ooo years but oral tradition say that Indians have always been here.
  • The Serrano Indians are the indigenous people of the San Bernardino highland, passes, valleys and mountains. The Serrano that inhabited the Lake Arrowhead area were called the Yuhaviatam or the People of the Pines.
  • The San Manuel Band of Mission Indian reservation was established in 1891 and recognized as a sovereign nation with the right of self-government and are descended from the Yuhaviatam
  • The earliest settlements by Europeans in the area were due to the logging industry.
  • In the early 1800’s, work crews dug a series of tunnels through the San Bernardino Mountains connecting to Lake Arrowhead
  • A narrow gauge stream train ran along what is now Rim of the World highway through Running Springs and into Grass Valley
  • The tower that stands in the middle of Lake Arrowhead is 19S feet high an is an outlet for water to the desert below.
  • Willow Woods in Sky Forest dates back to the early 1900’s and can still be visited today.
  • Santa’s Village theme park opened in 1954 a few months before Disneyland
  • The lake Arrowhead Village was burned down in 1980 and was rebuilt to current status. The pavilion, which stands in the center of the village, was the only building preserved.
  • Many movies have been filmed in lake Arrowhead including “Heidi” “Magnificent Obsession”, “The American President” “Space Jam” and “The Parent Trap”
